Situated in the south-central region of Persia, Kirman has one of the longest and most glorious traditions in the history of workshop carpet manufacture. During the 19th century, following the revival of crafts in Persia, carpet production flourished, attracting famous designers and weavers and as a result, wonderful carpets were produced. In the nearby city of Lavar, some of the finest carpets were produced, their main features being, the fine weave and the characteristic dark red, light blue and white colors dominating their color scheme.

The present majestic size Lavar, with the multiple pendant shape medallions, is an exceptional example of the peak period for Kirman carpets during the end of the 19th century.
