Isfahan is a major city in central Iran and has a long and glorious history in carpet literature.

As early as the Safavid dynasty in the 16th century, some of the most significant carpets in history were produced there in the royal workshops. Then again, in the 19th century and especially during the “revival period” until the 1930’s, the Isfahan carpets can be considered as the finest woven carpets in Iran. Nowadays, production continues in the same footsteps, but not at the same heights as in the past.

This extremely fine rug was woven in a major workshop during the end of the 19th century. Besides the amazing color balance, this most complicated but perfectly arranged design, which covers the whole field, has two very rarely found features, which are the “tilted” medallion and the “broken” border. It is worth mentioning that the design of the border, in other Isfahans, serves as the main theme of the rug. It is definitely a masterpiece of workmanship and design
