Hereke Silk

The city of Hereke in western Turkey, compared to other Anatolian cities, has a short history in carpets. Nevertheless, it has become famous for its very fine silk rugs which are woven in well organized workshops from the beginning of the 20^th century onwards.  This small 100% silk rug which has a knot density of one million knots per m2 is probably made during the 1960s and it is in perfect condition. It consists of 9 small prayer rugs drawn in the popular “Bakhtiari” manner and has a wonderful color balance which along with its expertly chosen palette, contribute to its serene appearance. Indeed a very decorative rug for any taste.
