Hereke Silk
The city of Hereke in western Turkey, compared to other Anatolian cities, has a short history in carpets. Nevertheless, it has become famous for its very fine silk rugs which are woven in well organized workshops from the beginning of the 20th century onwards. This small 100% silk rug which has a knot density of one million knots per m2 is probably made during the 1960s and it is in perfect condition. It consists of 9 small prayer rugs drawn in the popular “Bakhtiari” manner and has a wonderful color balance which along with its expertly chosen palette, contribute to its serene appearance. Indeed a very decorative rug for any taste.
