Amritsar

Amritsar, along with Agra, Lahore and Jaipur are four of the most famous cities for their history in carpet production. Most of the Amritsar carpets were made during the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th centuries. They were made in organized workshops and most of them were exported to the Commonwealth, since India belonged at that time to the British Empire. Their designs are mostly of a Persian origin with a touch of Indian finesse and charm.
The present carpet with the five medallions, the wonderful salmon ground color and the night blue border is one of the most beautiful examples of the end of the 19th century, preserved in mint condition.
