This extremely charming rug is called Khaden and it was made in 1900 in Tibet.Khaden rugs were mainly used as portable beds, especially by monks of the Tibetan monasteries. Its central theme is a group of 3 flower blossoms facing the viewer directly, whilst the four corners consist of a formation of clouds facing each other. Besides its obvious good-looking appearance due its fine palette and wonderful design, the factor that really adds to its rarity, is the black ground, which creates a contrast with the rest of the colors. This is supposed to produce a two-level effect, which in this case is very effective and extremely pleasing to the eye.
