This very unusual and rare rug is probably Moldavian, made in the 1890’s or earlier.There are distinct similarities with other Bessarabian designs, and especially the elements in the border. It is of a coarse weave, which means that it was made on a private loom, the weaver trying to imitate a large workshop carpet, with definite French influences.
