Akstafa

The Akstafa rugs are a bit of a puzzle for carpet researchers because although they are woven in the Kazak district of Caucasus, their structure is more like the Shirvan rugs. The format of this particular prayer rug follows the footsteps of Shirvan and Daghestan prayer rugs and it belongs to an extremely small such group. The lattice design is covered with “Kochanak” and diamond motifs, whereas inside the mihrab there is a loom comb and outside two cypress trees. In very good condition and definitely a collector’s item.
