Senneh Kilim

The finest kilims ever produced in Persia and in the whole of the Orient, for that matter, come from Senneh in western Persia, an area inhabited mostly by Kurdish people. But this is not the only feature which characterizes the Senneh kilims. It is also the special type of weave, a “chain like” stitching one, which gives them a very particular feel and fabric-like handling. Their main design feature is that of the Feraghan motif, which is endlessly repeated throughout the field, whether this is interrupted by a central medallion or not. Our present kilim happens to be one of the most popular models and since it is made during the end of the 19th century, it explains why it is so carefully executed, using a very well selected variety of colors.
