Chris Doulgeris

ABOUT
The collaboration between Christoforos Doulgeris and Art Rug Projects by Soutzoglou marks his first exploration of the handmade rug as a new medium of artistic expression. The artist engages with weaving as a new surface for creation, translating two of his works through a process of creative interpretation and transformation.
Doulgeris’ research into materiality, transformation, and the relationship between surface, light, and perception acquires a new dimension through handmade weaving. Texture, variations in pile height, and the combination of materials translate his works into a tactile, relief-like experience, where the image is activated not only visually but also through its material and physical presence.
Each rug is entirely handmade, crafted from wool and bamboo silk, and incorporates more than forty colour shades, requiring four months of production. Variations in pile height enhance the spatial quality of the composition, creating a strong sense of depth and perspective.
The result is a pair of limited edition works that bridge contemporary art and traditional rug making. More than translations of an artwork into a different material, they constitute new artistic propositions in which weaving functions as an equal creative medium, expanding the artist’s visual language and affirming the handmade rug as a space where materiality, memory, and contemporary artistic expression converge.
