Kuba Shirvan Kilim
Some of the most beautiful Transcaucasian kilims were made in the Kuba and Shirvan districts. This incredible kilim with a deep blue ground is covered with a variety of hexagons, each one bearing a mirror image of the “kotchank” motif, a symbol of fertility and power. The purpose of all these hexagons being completely independent, is to offer more space to the whole synthesis of the design. The use of a thin “fleur de lis” border guarding the motifs from “overflowing” the kilim, enhances the idea of the “floating effect” that the weaver wants to achieve. A fantastic and rare kilim, made in 1880, is a real treat for any kilim collector.
