Shahsavan Kilim

The Sahsavans living in the Transcaucasian mountainous region of N.E. Persia are nomadic tribes, with a very distinctive geometric design repertoire. Most of their weavings are flatwoven more often with strong natural colors. A distinct characteristic is a repetition of motifs, both vertically and horizontally, whilst in many cases we come across charming, improvised motifs scattered randomly in the field. Although usually of not high commercial value some kilims and rugs are of very decorative capacity especially in country houses.
