The Akstafa rugs are a bit of a puzzle for carpet researchers because although they are woven in the Kazak district of Caucasus, their structure is more like the Shirvan rugs. Tis particular Akstafa rug is the most typical of its kind. It consists of three octagonal medallions, guarded by four pairs of pheasants, all surrounded by a double “Kotchanak” white border. It is one of the most recognizable Caucasian rugs and it is in mint condition.
